A Blue State Digital founding partner, Jascha brings more than a decade's experience in software development in the corporate, nonprofit, and political spheres to his role as Blue State Digital's Chief Technology Officer. He manages the company's technology staff and operations out of Blue State Digital's technology center near downtown Boston, including the infrastructure, maintenance and enhancement of the Blue State Digital Online Tools, and technology client services.
Blue State Digital spearheaded Obama for America's extensive online fundraising, constituency building and peer-to-peer networking initiatives, all of which helped to create momentum for the President-elect's successful campaign in 2008's historic election. For the campaign, Jascha managed the team that built and ran the my.barackobama.com technology platform, and worked directly with Obama for America's New Media team in providing the tools and platform to engage supporters, donors and volunteers. Michael Tiemann is a true open source software pioneer. He made his first major open source contribution more than two decades ago by writing the GNU C++ compiler, the first native-code C++ compiler and debugger. His early work led to the creation of leading open source technologies and the first open source business model.
Michael Tiemann received a BS in Computer Science Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania's Moore School of Engineering in 1987. In 1989, Tiemann's technical expertise and entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found Cygnus Solutions, the first company to provide commercial support for open source software. During his ten years at Cygnus, Tiemann contributed in a number of roles from President to hacker, helping lead the company from fledgling start-up to an admired open source leader.
Tiemann serves on a number of boards, including the Open Source Initiative and the GNOME Foundation. Tiemann also provides financial support to organizations that further the goals of software and programmer freedom, including the Free Software Foundation and the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

Rob Adams is a venture industry executive with more than 17 years of broad operational and financial experience; including business strategy development and implementation, financial analysis and modeling, management development, and business positioning. He is a founding partner of NextStage Capital, L.P., a mid-Atlantic seed and early stage venture capital fund.
Prior to joining his partners at NextStage, Rob served six years as Principal and Vice President of Safeguard Scientifics. There, he was instrumental in the development of numerous technology companies, from early stage through public entity. As a part of that role, he was chartered with sourcing, structuring, and negotiating greater than $100 million in investments for Safeguard's portfolio and $380 million in mergers, acquisitions and exits. Dan Allen is a member of the Seam project team at JBoss, a division of Red Hat, and author of Seam in Action. Dan is known for his passionate work and his thorough writing style. He has over eight years of development experience using Java EE technologies (Seam, JSF/Facelets, EJB3, Hibernate, Spring, Struts) and the plethora of frameworks and technologies that support web application development, including JUnit, TestNG, Selenium, JavaScript, CSS, Maven 2, Ant, Groovy, and the list wears on.

David A. Black founded Ruby Power and Light, LLC in 2006 when he was making a transition from full-time university teaching to Ruby/Rails training and consulting. David Chelimsky is the lead developer of RSpec and a leader in the discussion of Behaviour Driven Development in the Ruby space.

Bill Dudney is a software developer and entrepreneur currently building software for the Mac. Bill started his computing career on a NeXT cube with a magneto-optical drive running NeXTStep 0.9. Robert Hanson is the Applications Development Manager for Quality Technology Services a company providing hosting, managed services, and application development. There he plays a dual role of lead developer and architect, defining the processes that allow for the development of quality web applications. Robert is a veteran programmer and web developer, cutting his teeth on Perl and ASP in the mid 90's before moving on to Java.

Jane Hoffer most recently was the president and chief executive officer of Prescient Applied Intelligence (Nasdaq: PPID). She was responsible for directing the long-term vision of the company and its commitment to remaining a competitive force in a rapidly changing marketplace. Hoffer drove the strategic direction for Prescient’s comprehensive solutions that enabled retail trading partners to align planning and execution with changing market needs through improved demand visibility, collaboration and advanced commerce. In January 2009, Prescient was sold to Park City Group (Nasdaq: PCYG) and Hoffer has exited the business. She is currently working on the development of another start-up company.

Chuck Lewis, VP of Information Management at TD Bank, has spent over 19 years in IT. Mr. McCaney has over 20 years experience in the medical industry, principally in diagnostics and medical devices. In 2005, he founded Nitric BioTherapeutics, Inc. and has been President & CEO since that time. Prior to joining Nitric Bio, he was Sr. VP of Business Development at Viasys Healthcare where he was responsible for M&A, technology assessment and, for a time, Group President of the OEM medical companies of Viasys. His previous experience was at several of the larger healthcare conglomerates, mostly in Sales and Marketing roles and was partly responsible for the spinoff of Viasys from Thermo Electron Corp. Mr. McCaney has a B.S. in Biochemistry and an M.S. Eq. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

He has written several programming books, including the 2006 Jolt Award winner, Prefactoring, and has served clients from London to Sydney. When not computing, he enjoys snowboarding, windsurfing, biking, and hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Tom Purcell's 19-year IT journey has tracked the course of the industry from the glass house of the 80's, to the client-server of the 90's and on to the J2EE Enterprise applications of the new millennium. He has designed and developed applications on numerous platforms and has worked with Java technology extensively since he installed the first IBM mainframe JVM in 1997. Recently, he has helped engineer several successful J2EE applications in the accounting and travel industries. Tom leads the Delaware Valley BEA Users Group, has been published in Weblogic Developer's Journal and was a speaker at last year's JavaOne.

Michael Redlich is a currently a Senior Research Technician at a petrochemical research organization in Clinton, New Jersey with extensive experience in developing custom web and scientific laboratory applications. Mike also has experience as a Technical Support Engineer for Ai-Logix, Inc. where he provided technical support and developed telephony applications for customers. He has been a member of the Amateur Computer Group of New Jersey (ACGNJ) since 1996, and currently serves on the ACGNJ Board of Directors as President. Mike has also been facilitating the monthly ACGNJ Java Users Group since 2001. His technical experience includes object oriented design and analysis, relational database design and development, computer security, C/C++, Java, and other programming/scripting languages. Mike has co-authored a number of articles with Barry Burd for Java Boutique. He has also conducted seminars at Emerging Technologies for the Enterprise, Trenton Computer Festival (TCF) since 1998, TCF Professional Conference since 2006, and other venues including Princeton Java Users Group, Capital District Java Developers Network, and New York Software Industry Association (NYSIA) Java Users Group. Mike serves as a Coordinator of a local ExxonMobil Science Ambassador program where he has conducted numerous science demonstrations and served as a science fair judge for various elementary schools in central New Jersey. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Rutgers University.

Nick Sieger is a staff engineer at Sun Microsystems where he has been working on a team building Project Kenai, a large JRuby on Rails application. He is a member of the JRuby core team, leading the effort to improve Rails deployment on the Java Virtual Machine. He created and co-maintains the JDBC adapter for ActiveRecord that JRuby on Rails uses for database connectivity, as well as the Warbler tool and JRuby-Rack library for dealing with Java application server deployment. James Ward is a Technical Evangelist for Flex at Adobe and Adobe's JCP representative to JSR 286, 299, and 301.
